Jennifer Lynn Lopez (also known as Jennifer Lynn Lopez or J-Lo) is an American singer, actress, dancer, fashion designer, producer, and businesswoman.

Place of Birth. Education. Jennifer Lopez was born on July 24, 1969, in the Bronx, New York. She grew up in the Bronx, a modest neighborhood of New York next to Castle Hill, in a Puerto Rican family of Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez. She has two sisters: the older one - Leslie, and the younger one - Linda, a journalist. At the age of five, Lopez began taking singing and dancing lessons. At seven, she performed with her school in New York. Lopez attended Catholic girls' schools and completed her education at Preston High School. During her school years, Jennifer participated in gymnastics, ran, was a member of the softball team, and competed in national running competitions.

Career Beginnings. Television. Film. While she was in her senior year, Lopez learned about a casting call for a film that was looking for teenage girls for small roles. Lopez auditioned and starred in the film 'My Little Girl.' After filming, she realized she wanted to become a 'famous film and television actress.' Following her parents' advice, she enrolled in Baruch College, where she completed only one semester. During this time, Lopez acted in local productions of the musicals 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and 'Oklahoma!'. Soon, she was noticed and became a member of the choir for 'Golden Musicals of Broadway,' which toured Europe for five months. Lopez was the only member of the choir without a solo number, which disappointed her. She later became a dancer, singer, and choreographer for the show 'Synchronicity' in Japan.

Jennifer began her acting career in 1991 with a role as a dancer in the television series 'In Living Color.' She made it to television thanks to the support of Latina actress Rosie Perez. After that, she appeared in several television series, including 'South Central' (1992), 'Second Chances,' and 'Malibu Hotel' (1994).

On the big screen, Lopez made her debut in 1995 as a single Mexican mother in the film 'My Family.' Music Career. Lopez debuted on the music scene in 1999. Her debut album 'On the 6' was released on June 1, 1999, and debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200. The album's first single 'If You Had My Love' topped the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks. In the U.S., it sold 1.2 million copies, achieved platinum status, and was one of the best-selling singles of 1999. The song 'Waiting for Tonight,' which was the third single from the album, reached number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs. Many critics considered it one of the best songs in Lopez's career and also called it the anthem of the millennium. 'Waiting for Tonight' was nominated for a Grammy in the category of 'Best Dance Recording.'

Lopez's second studio album 'J.Lo' was released on January 23, 2001. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and remained on the charts for 26 weeks. The album achieved quadruple platinum in the U.S., and it was the sixth best-selling album of 2001 worldwide. It sold 4 million copies in the U.S. and 12 million copies worldwide. On February 5, 2002, the remix album 'J to tha L-O!: The Remixes' was released. It became the first remix album in history to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 and was included in the Guinness Book of Records.
