Ivika Siliņa – Latvian lawyer and politician. Prime Minister of Latvia since September 15, 2023. Member of the board of the Unity party. Previously - Minister of Welfare of Latvia (2022-2023), Member of the XIV Saeima of Latvia (November 1 - December 14, 2022).

Place of Birth. Education. Born on August 3, 1975, in Riga, Latvia.

From 1993 to 1997, she studied at the Faculty of Law at the University of Latvia in Riga and obtained a degree as a lawyer (specialist in legal sciences). In parallel, she studied Comparative Constitutional Law from 1996 to 1997 as part of the 'Eurofaculty' program of SGKM. She continued her studies at the Riga Graduate Law School from 1999 to 2001 and earned a Master's degree in international and European legal sciences.

Career. From 1995 to 1997, lawyer at the office of sworn attorney Gunta Antoms.

From 1997 to 1999, lawyer at the company Koblenz.

From 1998 to 2003, assistant attorney at the office of sworn attorneys Lata.

From 2003 to 2012, she worked as a sworn attorney. She collaborated with the legal departments of state and non-state organizations.

Since 2017, she has been published in the magazine I'mperfekt.

Besides her native Latvian, she speaks fluent Russian and English.

Political Career. In November 2011, she became an external legal advisor to the Minister of the Interior Rihards Kozlovskis, and in 2012 she was employed.

From 2013 to 2019, she was the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of the Interior of Latvia. She represented the Ministry in the Saeima and in parliamentary committees, led and coordinated the development of political documents. Her responsibilities also included child welfare issues. She represented the Ministry in international organizations (UN, Interpol, CEPOL, etc.).

She is a board member of the center-right Unity party. She ran in the 2014 parliamentary elections on the Unity party list but was not elected. She ran in the 2018 parliamentary elections on the list of the parties' alliance New Unity but was not elected.

In February 2019, she resigned as the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of the Interior and became the parliamentary secretary to Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš.

After the parliamentary elections on October 1, 2022, she was elected as a member of the XIV Saeima of Latvia on the list of the parties' alliance New Unity.

On December 14, 2022, she became the Minister of Welfare of Latvia in the second government led by Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš.

On August 16, 2023, after the resignation of Krišjānis Kariņš, New Unity nominated Ivika Siliņa as a candidate for the position of Prime Minister.

On September 15, 2023, the Parliament of Latvia approved Ivika Siliņa as the new Prime Minister, and she will lead the government of a broad coalition.
