External influence: important communication cable damaged between countries in the Baltic Sea.
Undersea fiber optic cable LVRTC damaged in the Baltic Sea
The Latvian company Latvijas valsts radio un televīzijas centrs (LVRTC) reported damage to its undersea fiber optic cable in the Baltic Sea. The head of LVRTC's corporate communications department, Vineta Sprugaine, stated that the damage was likely caused by external influence. The monitoring system detected disruptions in data transmission in the area of Ventspils - Gotland. Despite this, the company continues to provide services through other routes, although there may be delays in data transmission speeds. Furthermore, LVRTC has informed the relevant authorities about the damage and initiated a criminal case. The exact cause of the damage will be determined after the start of repair work.
In connection with this incident, Latvia's Prime Minister Evika Silina convened a meeting of the relevant ministries and services. It is worth noting that LVRTC is the main operator of terrestrial broadcasting in Latvia and manages some parts of the state mobile communications operator Latvijas mobilais telefons (LMT).
Let us remind you that NATO has increased its presence in the Baltic Sea.
