Gas tariffs in Ukraine: what consumers can expect from February 2025.
The government will not change the price of gas for the population until April 2025
The government of Ukraine has announced that the price of natural gas for the population will not change from February 1, 2025.
According to government resolution No. 812, NJSC 'Naftogaz Ukraine' will supply gas at a fixed price of UAH 7.96 per cubic meter during the heating season until April 2025. This was reported by Novyny Live.
'Any changes in tariffs are possible only by decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,' the document states. It is worth noting that current legislation prohibits increasing tariffs during the period of martial law.
There are other companies operating in the Ukrainian gas supply market, but about 98% of the population uses the services of 'Naftogaz'.
Of the nine existing suppliers, four offer annual fixed tariffs as well as variable monthly tariffs. The remaining five companies operate exclusively with annual tariffs, which range from UAH 7.79 to UAH 9.99 per cubic meter. Meanwhile, the market price of gas ranges from UAH 8.46 to UAH 19.99 per cubic meter.
For residents of apartment buildings, an important piece of news is the introduction of an additional service for the maintenance of internal gas supply systems in buildings. The payment amount will depend on the technical characteristics of the building, such as the length of gas networks, the number of connections, valves, and apartments.
To reduce costs, consumers have several options. Citizens who do not use gas boilers can contact the Gas Distribution Operator regarding a change in consumption category to 'consumer who uses gas exclusively for cooking'.
It should be noted that such changes will only affect the payment calculations from the beginning of the next year.
It is also important to remember that Ukrainians are obligated to pay for gas delivery even if they do not use it. In case of failure to comply with this requirement, the fee will still be collected from the companies through the court.
