How much money in the account indicates wealth — an amount in 2025.
Americans have determined how much money one needs to have in a bank account to be considered wealthy. According to a study by Charles Schwab Corporation, this amount varied for different demographic groups.
Wealth Threshold in the USA
According to a survey of over 2,000 Americans aged 21 to 75, the current exact threshold for wealth is at least 2.3 million dollars. At the end of last year, this threshold was higher - 2.5 million dollars.
To feel 'financially comfortable' in America, you need to have at least 839,000 dollars in your bank account. Researchers found that as people age, they feel the need for larger amounts of money:
- Generation Z - starting from 1.7 million dollars;
- Millennials - starting from 2.1 million dollars;
- Generation X - starting from 2.1 million dollars;
- Baby Boomers - starting from 2.8 million dollars.
This same distinction is noticeable in the concept of 'financial comfort' for different generations:
- Generation Z - starting from 329,000 dollars;
- Millennials - starting from 847,000 dollars;
- Generation X - starting from 783,000 dollars;
- Baby Boomers - starting from 943,000 dollars.
Research also showed that Americans understand wealth as 'happiness', 'money', 'health', and 'achievement'.
Who is considered wealthy in Poland
It turned out that in Poland, to be wealthy, one needs to earn more than 250% of the median household income. For example, for one person, 12,500 zlotys per month is sufficient, for a couple - 18,700 zlotys, and for a family with one child - 22,500 zlotys per month.
In comparison, in 2025, the minimum wage in Ukraine is 2,920 hryvnias, which is not enough even for basic needs such as housing, food, transportation, and medical services.
The study by Charles Schwab Corporation showed that Americans in different age categories have different notions of wealth and different amounts they need to have in their bank accounts for financial comfort. Compared to Poland and Ukraine, the requirements to consider oneself wealthy in the USA turned out to be significantly higher.
