The musical chart 'Territory A' aired not only Ukrainian but also Russian songs

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the musical chart 'Territory A', which was significant for the development of Ukrainian music in the 90s. Oleksandr Brygynets, the former director of 'Territory A', explained that both Ukrainian and Russian songs by Ukrainian performers were actually allowed on the air.

The producer explained that clips for Ukrainian songs were selected for the chart, but when there weren’t enough tracks, Russian-language songs were added. All clips for Ukrainian songs immediately made it to the chart. However, Russian songs often dropped out of the chart because they didn’t receive votes. Nevertheless, it was mathematically difficult to do without them.

Brygynets also mentioned that many performers shot videos thanks to 'Territory A', as Ukrainian videomaking was not yet developed. Usually, concert videos were shown, but 'Territory A' encouraged performers to create real clips. Although Ukrainian clips were simpler compared to Russian ones, this was justified by the financial capabilities of the artists.

Despite the criticism, 'Territory A' continues to exist and implement various cultural projects. The organization conducts charity events, honors the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred and Heavenly Legion 'Angels of Memory', honors the victims of the Holodomor 'Candle of Memory' and prepares 'Territory of Christmas' for the winter holidays. In addition, it publishes the archives of 'Territory A' on social networks.
