The Times: Biden may allow Ukraine to strike Russia with Storm Shadow/Scalp missiles.

US President Joe Biden is considering allowing Ukraine to use British and French Storm Shadow/Scalp missiles to strike military targets in Russia, reports The Times, citing two informed interlocutors.

According to sources, Biden may allow the use of these missiles as the UK and France support such a move. However, the use of American ATACMS missiles is likely to be prohibited.

The plan is that the US president will discuss this issue with European leaders to get their opinion on possible changes in policy. The UK and France already support lifting restrictions on the use of their long-range missiles by Ukraine, but the US is not yet ready for this due to fear of escalating the conflict.

In August 2024, the Pentagon reported that US policy on limiting long-range strikes on Russia remains unchanged. However, Washington allows Ukraine to respond to Russian attacks from the border region of the Sumy Oblast, including Russia's Kursk Oblast.

At the end of August, Ukrainian Defense Minister Umerov handed American officials a list of potential targets in Russia for a long-range strike.

On September 11, Biden stated that work continues on the issue of granting Ukraine permission to use long-range Western weapons against military targets in Russia.
