Frank Lampard to England Players: Silence is Key to World Cup Spot.
Lampard Advises England Players to Keep Quiet for World Cup Chances
According to The Sun: Frank Lampard has advised England players that silence is golden if they aspire to make it to the World Cup.
The former star of the Three Lions urges Thomas Tuchel's new squad to refrain from commenting on team selection.
GettyRight now, Tuchel has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal, and Lampard, who spent most of his career with the England team playing alongside Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes, knows the importance of making compromises.
Lampard believes that silence served him well—he scored 29 goals for his country, played in three World Cups and one Euro, becoming part of the 'golden generation'.
“I just got on with my job. You’re a professional; you just play, respect the manager, and keep going. You can have your own thoughts—but I usually kept them to myself and thought I could do better if I was asked to play.”
“The truth is, I never played for England the way I did for Chelsea.”
Lampard noted that now he’s in a managerial role, he understands the difficulties of team selection.
His team 'Coventry' is currently sitting at the top of the Championship, having scored 27 goals. He aims to bring the team back to the Premier League.
Tuchel has plenty of options in the attacking setup, which has created competition for places in the starting eleven alongside captain Harry Kane.
The squad includes Bukayo Saka, Anthony Gordon, Eberechi Eze, Jarrod Bowen, Marcus Rashford, and Ollie Watkins, who are all vying for spots in the matches against Wales and Latvia.

However, players like Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish are also keen to earn a place in the squad for their trip to North America for next summer's World Cup.
“Now, as a coach, I understand the difficulties of selection.”
“I never comment on other coaches' decisions, as I don't know the circumstances and what they are thinking.”
Lampard believes that the perspective has somewhat shifted, and Tuchel can adopt a more flexible approach to selection.

Lampard emphasizes that it is crucial to have open communication between players and coaches, as it can generate new ideas.
“I believe that in modern football, the conversation between player and coach is becoming more open.”
Frank stresses the importance of balance in communication: “Players need to feel your authority and believe in what you’re doing.”
'Another Format'
Lampard notes that the England national team has its own peculiarities, as gatherings only happen occasionally.
“When you’re in a club, you train every day and communicate much more.”
However, Lampard recalls a conversation with Chelsea's legendary coach Carlo Ancelotti about his role in the team.
“It was one of those wonderful moments when he was very open and eager for change.”
He is confident that a true coach's style is characterized by his willingness to listen and adapt.
“I am more open to communication with players because I want to improve. Every conversation can help, whether I agree with it or not.”
“In the end, the decision is mine—and I hope it will be successful.”
Thus, Lampard’s advice highlights the importance of mutual understanding between coaches and players, especially in the context of preparing for major tournaments. Now, as competition within the national team increases, openness in communication may prove to be a decisive factor in achieving success in upcoming matches.
