Portsmouth to Allocate £200 for Utilities: Who Will Receive Assistance.
Support for Families
According to The Sun: Thousands of families can receive up to £200 as part of the support program, which is now open for applications again.
This assistance is aimed at low-income households and is designed to ease the payment of energy and water bills.
PAPortsmouth City Council is launching a utility payment program following the announcement of reduced energy prices.
Individuals living alone can receive £150, and couples or families can receive £200.
Applications will be accepted until October 27, although this date may change if funding runs out.
Payments are available to single parents, pensioners, guardians, and other categories of citizens.
This program is part of the Household Support Fund (HSF), which provides assistance to residents of the UK through the government.
Council leader Steve Pitt noted that the program aims to 'provide more financial support to some of our most vulnerable residents before winter, when people need to heat their homes.'
Residents can apply online on the council's website or call the community support team.
Energy Crisis
This news comes amid a call for households to check their eligibility for free funds of £500 due to rising energy prices.
Next month, energy tariffs will rise to £1,737, but thousands of households may receive assistance through this financial support.
In the West Midlands, there is a program run by the charity Act on Energy, aimed at alleviating the burden on families facing difficulties in paying their bills.
This payment program is aimed at supporting families with children under 18 or young people up to 21 who are in full-time education.
To receive funds, there are certain requirements applicants must meet. Funding is limited, so the program operates on a first-come, first-served basis and closes at the end of September.
Families can receive a one-time payment of £500, while individuals or couples can receive £300.
Depending on how energy bills are paid, funds can be sent directly to the energy supplier or provided as prepaid energy vouchers for those using key or card meters.
This program is available only to those residing in West Midlands areas, including Stratford-upon-Avon.
Applicants must also meet income and vulnerability criteria by providing proof of their income and savings.
Meanwhile, the HSF offers Kingston-upon-Thames residents a one-time payment of £300 to help cover everyday expenses.
If you receive Universal Credit, you can still apply, but assistance is also available to those with low income without benefits.
Applications for this program reopened on September 1 at 9:00 AM, and only 80 spots are available for the month.
The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is important to act quickly.
The HSF has been extended several times, with the latest round running from April 2025 to March 2026.
Each council in England has been allocated a portion of the £742 million fund to distribute among residents in need of assistance.
Eligibility criteria vary depending on the locality, but assistance is typically provided to those receiving benefits or having a low income.
PA In the context of rising energy tariffs, support programs become particularly relevant for many families facing challenges in paying their bills. This is a significant opportunity to receive financial assistance, which can alleviate household expenses and prepare for winter. The application timeframe is limited, so it is advisable to act quickly and take advantage of the available opportunities.Read also
