Tens of thousands of fraudsters will lose child benefits after leaving the country

The UK Cabinet is launching a special project to combat fraud, which will involve checking child benefit recipients using international travel data. Anyone who continues to receive benefits after leaving the country will be stripped of this support.

As a result of the pilot project, 2,600 people were identified who were not entitled to benefits but continued to receive them. Therefore, the government has decided to intensify this fight and increase the number of staff in social services.

The Cabinet Minister, Georgie Gould, stated: “Our government is countering those who attempt to deceive the system and receive assistance illegally. From September, we will strengthen our efforts in this direction to save money for the rightful taxpayers.”

Shot for a chain

Currently, almost seven million families receive child benefits, supporting nearly twelve million children.

The UK government is starting an active fight against fraudsters who continue to receive child benefits after leaving the country. With the help of international travel data, it is planned to check benefit recipients, and those who are entitled but use the system unethically will be deprived of such support. The government expects to save hundreds of millions of pounds of taxpayers' money thanks to these measures.
