Unique house in Britain sold at auction: what makes a toilet in the living room.
Unique house sold at auction for £202,000 with a surprise inside
According to The Sun: Deciding to make an investment, buyers were astonished by what they found inside this unusual split-level property in Worcester.
For saleThis spacious Victorian three-bedroom house looked quite ordinary from the outside but had one strange hidden feature.
Buyers looking for cozy accommodation in the prestigious Barbourne area first noticed the large hallway, living room, and dining room suitable for entertaining friends. The presence of a pantry and kitchen added convenience.
The house also has a three-chamber basement, which caught the attention of auction participants. On the upper floor, there are three spacious bedrooms and a bathroom, which sparked considerable interest.
The starting auction price was just £160,000, but due to fierce competition, it rose to £202,000.
However, attentive buyers noticed an unusual feature in the 19th-century house. TikTok user @housinghorrors noted:
“This house has a toilet in the living room.”
Photos on the listing website showed a toilet and sink tucked away in the corner of the main living room, just a meter away from the central fireplace.
There was no partition for privacy, making any trips to the toilet quite conspicuous. One commentator joked:
“Just in case you don't want to go to the bathroom.”
Some optimistic viewers believe that the toilet just needs a partition to separate it from the rest of the room. Others pointed out that such a configuration might have been designed for someone who couldn't go upstairs.
Nevertheless, the true reason will remain a mystery.
As expected from auction property, some parts of the house also need repair. The walls are covered with wallpaper that show signs of mold, and William Morris-style carpets need updating.

Despite this, the presence of a third basement and large space in the house indicate its potential. With three bedrooms needing modernization, a huge basement, and a spacious kitchen, this property could significantly increase its value after renovation.
