Tottenham coach suggests changing football rules: adding timeouts and abolishing handball penalties.
Thomas Frank's proposals for changes in football
According to The Sun: Tottenham coach Thomas Frank expressed his desire to introduce timeouts during matches so that coaches can communicate with players. In his opinion, this would allow for better tactical adjustments during the game.
Moreover, Frank believes that the handball rule needs to be reviewed to make the game fairer.
“I would introduce a timeout in each half. From a coaching perspective, it would be great to have the opportunity to communicate with players during the game and make adjustments,”
said the coach, emphasizing that this could be a radical step that other coaches would also appreciate. However, it is unclear how fans will respond to frequent breaks, especially since delays due to VAR have already sparked some complaints.
Frank also believes that the handball rule should be revised.
“I would remove the handball rule because it is incorrect. If the ball touches your hand in the penalty area, you give the opponent the biggest chance simply because it 'touched' your hand,”
he said. “I don’t understand why a player gets the biggest opportunity in the game from a simple touch of the hand.”
Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou at the helm of Tottenham, is showing a promising start with his new team, noting that an international break is ahead after the team suffered a setback, losing to Bournemouth at home.
He has played three matches in the Premier League and one in the UEFA Super Cup and is satisfied with the performance of his players.
“It has been a good start to the season. I am pleased with the players' approach to work,”
added Frank, noting that his goal is to create a strong club.
“The success of this season lies in building something that is sustainable and strong. I want us to perform consistently at the highest level in every game,”
he concluded.

These changes could significantly impact the style of play and the relationships between coaches, players, and fans. Whether football is ready to embrace innovations that could change the discipline will be seen in the near future.
