The Spurs' squad of 25 players for the return to the elite league does not include Kotu Takai, Radu Dragushin, Iva Bissouma, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Mathis Tell.

The absence of England international Maddison, 28, is not surprising.

The midfielder suffered a knee injury during a friendly match against Newcastle in August, which may prove serious.

Summer signing Takai is also undergoing treatment for a plantar fascia injury; his return timeline is currently unknown.

Dragushin and Kulusevski will be unable to play due to knee injuries.

Dragushin may return to training at the end of next month, while Kulusevski plans to recover by the end of November.

Bissouma, who has yet to take the field this season, has an unknown muscle injury.

Tottenham returned to European club football last May, winning the Europa League.

A modest 1-0 victory over Premier League rivals Manchester United in Bilbao marked a farewell match for Ange Postecoglou, ending a 17-year wait for trophies for the club and ensuring a place among Europe's elite.

Tottenham will kick off their Champions League campaign on September 16 with a match against Villarreal, followed by meetings with Bodo/Glimt, Monaco, FC Copenhagen, Paris Saint-Germain, Slavia Prague, Borussia Dortmund, and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Liverpool and Chelsea have also announced their Champions League squads, which also feature surprises.

Ahead of the start of the Champions League season 2025/26, the absence of key players may significantly impact Tottenham's results. The team seeks to replicate last season's success, but injuries to key players could hinder them. However, fans hope that player recoveries throughout the season will help the club reach new heights on the European stage.
