Tottenham signs Simons for £52m: the Dutchman has passed a medical.
Tottenham on the path to signing Xavi Simons
According to The Sun: Tottenham has practically completed the deal to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig for £52 million.
The 22-year-old Dutchman has agreed to personal contract terms with the North London club and has undergone a medical examination at Hotspur Way.
GettyChelsea actively sought to sign this highly-rated attacking midfielder throughout the summer.
However, according to The Athletic, the 'Spurs' launched a sudden attack and finalized the deal, with only final details left to agree with RB Leipzig.
Yesterday, Simons was given permission from the club to travel to London.
Tottenham has ramped up efforts to outmaneuver Chelsea in the fight for the player.
Thomas Frank's team was looking for a player wearing number 10 since the beginning of the summer.
They almost reached an agreement for Morgan Gibbs-White in July, but that transfer unexpectedly fell through.
James Maddison's ACL injury during pre-season preparations forced the 'Lilywhites' to turn their attention to Eberechi Eze.
Tottenham agreed on a £68 million deal with Crystal Palace after prolonged negotiations, but ultimately lost out to Arsenal.
Now, with Simons, the 'Spurs' might feel they have found their player.
The club could still intensify signings of other players before the transfer window closes on Monday.
According to information, the club is also considering several wingers, including Magnes Akliush, Ademola Lookman, and Savinho.
It's also possible they might sign a defender: previously the club showed interest in Piero Hincapié, however, Arsenal has already expressed interest in this player.
Simons will become Tottenham's fifth signing this summer.
The club started its transfer campaign by making the loan deals for Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel permanent.
Then, the 'Spurs' spent £5 million to sign Japanese central defender Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale.
After that, Frank's team invested £55 million in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, also securing a season-long deal with Bayern's midfielder João Palhinha.
Thus, Tottenham is actively strengthening its squad, aiming to solidify positions ahead of the new season. It is worth noting that Simons' transfer could become a key element in the 'Spurs' battle for higher positions in the table.
Given the growing competition in the transfer market, the club's future decisions could significantly impact their performance in the championship.
