At the beginning of the session, before the warm-up, the young footballer suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical personnel immediately provided first aid using a defibrillator, and soon the emergency service arrived.
The boy, who had been with the club for the second season, was taken to São João Hospital in Porto in critical condition, where, unfortunately, he soon passed away.
“With deep sorrow, Boavista announces the death of the U8 team athlete, which occurred after a training session held that afternoon.”
“The boy, only seven years old, felt unwell during the session and suddenly fell.”
“He was provided aid on site, and resuscitation efforts began before the arrival of the National Emergency Medical Service (INEM).”
“The emergency team continued procedures and arranged transport to the hospital, where the athlete was hospitalized in critical condition.”
“He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, in the morning.”
The club confirmed that the boy had undergone all necessary medical examinations for registration for the season, and “the family and the club were not aware of any medical conditions that could have hindered his participation in sports.”
In response to this terrible tragedy, Boavista canceled all training on Tuesday and declared a three-day official mourning period.
“In this moment of deep sorrow, when words fail, Boavista expresses its deepest condolences to his family, friends, classmates, coaches, and all who knew him.”
This tragedy has been a real shock to the football community in Portugal. The death of the young athlete has raised questions about the safety of the training process and the medical support for young athletes. An important role in preventing such incidents lies in ensuring comprehensive medical evaluation of children participating in sports events, as their health comes first.
