US Interest in Greenland

According to TSN.ua: US President Donald Trump has shown active interest in purchasing Greenland, instructing Secretary of State Marco Rubio to develop a plan for its acquisition at a price that could reach 700 billion dollars. However, official representatives of Greenland have already expressed their unwillingness to become part of the United States, indicating that the issue of selling the territory is contentious.

Greenland is a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, and its official representatives, including Minister of Business and Mineral Resources Naaja Nathanielsen, stated that the island does not wish to be owned or governed by the United States. Greenland's Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt also confirmed that the island chooses to remain part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

Prospects of the Deal

Trump expressed an optimistic view on the possibility of reaching a deal, noting:

“I would be happy to make a deal with them. It’s easier. But one way or another, we will get Greenland.”
In response to potential difficulties with the purchase, the US is considering the option of 'association' with Greenland. However, a bipartisan bill has already been initiated in the US Congress that prohibits the Pentagon from using funds to establish control over a NATO ally's territory without its consent.

Thus, the situation surrounding the potential acquisition of Greenland remains tense, as the positions of the US and Greenland significantly diverge. The issue of control over this territory, particularly in the context of international relations and security, requires further discussion and diplomatic efforts. It is also worth noting that interest in Greenland is driven by its strategic location and natural resources, which could influence global geopolitical dynamics in the future.
