USA sends special representative to Moscow: will it be possible to achieve a ceasefire.
The special representative of US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, is preparing for an important visit to Moscow. American officials hope to reach an agreement with the Kremlin on a ceasefire.
Trump on the purpose of Witkoff's visit to Russia
The US President stated that the USA aims to conclude an agreement with Russia on halting hostilities on the territory of Ukraine to prevent loss of life.
'We need to reach an agreement that will stop people from dying. Just recently, we got figures on the enormous number of killed Russian soldiers, as well as in Ukraine, where the number is lower but still thousands and thousands of people. And now we add cities that are undergoing rocket attacks. Many people are dying in this senseless war.'
Only a few days remain before the expiration of the US ultimatum for Russia, so the US government is attempting to persuade the Kremlin to engage in peaceful negotiations and end the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
It is also worth noting that Trump's chief aide expressed sharp criticism towards India, which continues to purchase oil from Russia despite the confrontation with allied nations.
Comments and public statements from officials indicate the USA's efforts to reach an agreement with Russia regarding the cessation of the war in eastern Ukraine and to put an end to human casualties on both sides of the conflict. Meanwhile, the conflict unfolds not only on battlefields but also in geopolitical relations among states, including trade relations.Read also
