Trump influenced Orban: Hungary lifted its objections to Ukraine's EU membership.
Trump convinced Orban to lift objections to Ukraine's EU membership
According to inkorr.com: US President Donald Trump managed to persuade Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to abandon his objections to Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
According to information from 'Hvylya', this was reported by Politico, citing a source in European diplomacy. According to the source, this had 'significant impact on the course of events'. Two diplomats expressed hope that the deadlock regarding Ukraine's membership would be resolved in the coming months due to pressure on Budapest.
It is worth reminding that Bloomberg, citing sources, reported: after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders at the White House last week, Trump called Orban to discuss why Hungary is blocking negotiations on Kyiv's EU membership.
At that time, there was no information about the Hungarian Prime Minister's reaction. He previously noted on social media X that Ukraine's EU membership is a 'blank check for an endless war'. It should be noted that the EU officially began negotiations with Ukraine regarding membership in June 2024. However, according to Euractiv, these negotiations have stalled due to Orban's stance. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen estimated that Ukraine will likely be able to join the EU by 2030, although 'the process will not be easy.'
It was also previously reported that Poland would block Ukraine's EU membership.
After Trump's phone call with Orban and support from Europe, the prospect of Ukraine's EU membership looks more optimistic, although the process remains challenging due to the resistance of some countries.
