Trump on Greenland: America Must Be Its Sole Security Guarantor.
US President's Remarks on Greenland's Security
According to UATV: During a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21, US President Donald Trump asserted that the United States alone should be responsible for Greenland's security. He argued that Greenland must be under US protection because, historically, Denmark failed to secure it during the Second World War. This statement reflects a broader shift in US foreign policy and its global role.
"We are a great nation, far greater than people even understand," Trump noted.
The President further stated:
"We felt an obligation to do it—to send our own troops to hold Greenland."
These comments underscore a changing US approach to international security, particularly concerning Arctic territories. Greenland is a vast, autonomous Danish territory with significant strategic importance. Trump's remarks highlight a US strategy to strengthen its position in the Arctic, where geopolitical competition is intensifying due to climate change and access to new resources.
This stance signals US efforts to bolster its military presence in the region, a move likely to draw responses from other nations with Arctic interests, notably Russia and China. Consequently, this issue is set to remain a focal point in international relations for years to come.
