Trump attended an NFL match: why it caused a scandal.
According to inkorr.com: U.S. President Donald Trump attended a football match on November 9, in which the 'Washington Commanders' faced off against the 'Detroit Lions'. This was reported by 'Glaсkom' citing NBC.
The last time a U.S. president attended a national championship football match was back in 1978 when Jimmy Carter was there.
It is worth noting that some fans reacted with boos during the breaks between quarters when the stadium announcer announced Trump's presence.
As NBC points out, Trump's visit to the game is related to rumors that the future 'Commanders' stadium may bear his name. The club has been playing at the arena in Landover, Maryland, since 1997, and demolition work on the old stadium, named after Robert Kennedy, began this year.
The cost of the new stadium will be $3.7 billion. Earlier, ESPN reported that Trump plans for the new stadium, which will open in 2030 in the capital, to be named after him.
Neutral skater at Putin's event
Russian skater Alexandra Sautina, recognized as a neutral athlete by the International Skating Union (ISU), was also present at Russian President Vladimir Putin's annual address to the Federal Assembly on February 29, 2024.
Another supporter of Putin, Russian skier Veronika Stepanova, shared a photo with Sautina on this event on Instagram. She can also be seen in the video broadcast, where, along with Sautina, were Putin's allies and Russian military personnel who participated in military actions against Ukraine.
Participation in such events contradicts the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee regarding neutral athletes.
Donald Trump's visit to the football championship match was a landmark event, as it had been over 40 years since a U.S. president attended such competitions. Meanwhile, the participation of Russian athletes in political events raises concerns about the adherence to neutrality in sports, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine and international sports norms.
