Trump Disappointed by Lack of Peace in Ukraine: What He Said About the Agreement with Russia.
According to ТСН: U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the absence of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, which he hoped to conclude before the end of last year.
In an interview, he mentioned that he initially expected the agreement to be reached by Thanksgiving, and later by Christmas, but that did not happen.
“I am disappointed”, he noted.
Trump's Position on Ukraine's Security
Commenting on the 20-point plan of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which includes security guarantees similar to NATO Article 5, Trump expressed confidence in their effectiveness. He noted that if Russia were to act aggressively again after a peace agreement, Ukraine would be defended not only by the U.S. but also by European allies.
However, Trump also believes that Russia would not dare to invade again.
“I firmly believe they would not invade again; otherwise, I would not agree to such an agreement”, he said.
Negotiations with Putin
Trump emphasized that without his involvement, a peace agreement would likely have been impossible, and Russia could have seized all of Ukraine's territory, which he believes was the Kremlin's initial goal.
The U.S. President confirmed that he discussed the 20-point plan with Vladimir Putin and believes that the Russian leader is interested in reaching an agreement.
“I think he wants to make a deal”, Trump noted, adding that both sides are likely ready for negotiations, though final decisions are still ahead.
Trust in Putin
When asked about his trust in Putin after the incident of the alleged strike on the Russian president's house, Trump admitted that he does not have a clear answer. He recounted that Putin informed him about the attack, but American intelligence did not confirm this information.
“I don't know if it was true or not. He told me that there had been an attack on his house”, Trump noted.
The U.S. President also pointed out that Russian ships left “very quickly” after the incident, but did not go into details.
British expert Hamish de Bretton-Gordon believes that a peace agreement with Ukraine is the best option for Russia, as the situation will worsen. The Kremlin will soon face a critical shortage of finances and personnel, and when the youth from the elite of Moscow and St. Petersburg start going to the front, the oligarchs will begin to talk about the feasibility of the war. Against the backdrop of record inflation and high interest rates, the aggressor's war machine will inevitably come to a halt.
