The watches were mounted 6 feet high in the area where players start their game, so participants of the BMW PGA Championships could accurately tell the time.
Rolex has long collaborated with the club in Surrey, and the watches help organizers announce player arrivals.
However, the two watches disappeared earlier this week before the championship, causing panic at the renowned location.
The police were called immediately to initiate an investigation.
It turned out that Rolex equipped the watches with trackers, allowing the case to be solved quickly.
Authorities conducted a search at a house in Egham, just a 12-minute drive from Wentworth, and found both stolen watches.
It is known that they might have been stolen either as a prank or with the intent to sell them on the black market.
“Rolex watches are associated with the PGA. Apparently, someone noticed them and decided they could be easily stolen,” one source noted.
The BMW Championship, featuring golfers from around the world, started this Thursday.
Stars like Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose played on the course yesterday, which was in the background of the Rolex watches.
There was no information on whether these were the already found watches.
The collaboration between golf and Rolex, known for its precision, has been going on for almost 60 years.
According to the Watch Register database, which records watches for identification in case of theft, Rolex is the most at-risk brand.
Sources confirmed the information regarding the theft of the watches at Wentworth, stating that one man has already been held accountable.
This situation reveals security issues at prestigious sporting events and highlights the importance of monitoring valuable items. The theft occurred in the context of a major golf championship, which only increases interest in such incidents in the future.
