Riots in the British City of Southport

In the city of Southport, located under Liverpool, riots broke out. Near the mosque, hundreds of people started a conflict, throwing bricks, bottles, and other objects at the mosque and the police. A police van was also set on fire, and police officers had bottles and wheeled bins thrown at them. This was reported by Sky News.

According to the police, the crowd consisted of members of the far-right English Defense League. Many of them were masked and hooded.

During the conflict, medical assistance was provided to 39 police officers, 27 of whom were taken to the hospital.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer stated that those responsible for the riots would be punished by law.

«The residents of Southport cannot recover from the horrors of yesterday. They deserve our support and our respect. Those who hijacked the memorial service for the deceased with violence and hooliganism insulted a community in mourning», he stated.

According to the police, the riots began after calls on the internet to protest near the mosque, which is located close to the site of the tragedy. Local residents gathered to honor the memory of the deceased.

After sunset, the situation near the mosque stabilized, and the number of people on the streets significantly decreased.

Remember that in the city of Southport in northwest England, a boy with a knife was arrested who attacked people in a children's summer club. A 17-year-old boy from Cardiff was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The attack occurred at a dance school dedicated to singer Taylor Swift.

Five children are in critical condition in the hospital, and the condition of three others is not yet known. They are all receiving treatment in hospitals in Liverpool and Manchester.

Two adults also sustained serious injuries: yoga instructor Leanne Lucas, who was a co-organizer of the children's dance event, and John Hayes, who works at the premises where the attacks occurred.
