A lawsuit has been filed against Apple in the UK over excessive profits.

The tech giant Apple is facing its first class action lawsuit in the UK

Claimants accuse the company of excessive earnings based on its monopoly position in the App Store. According to Bloomberg, it is argued at hearings in the London Competition Tribunal that millions of iPhone and iPad users are paying too much due to high commission fees in the App Store.

'Apple is using its monopoly position to reap excessive profits,' say representatives of the claimants.

The lawsuit is estimated at around £1.5 billion ($1.8 billion), which could be paid to British users since October 2015 who purchased apps or subscriptions.

'Our commissions are fair and reasonable,' claims Apple, dismissing the allegations.

This case could impact future lawsuits against Alphabet Inc. over fees in the Google Play Store or against Meta Platforms Inc. regarding the handling of users' personal data.

Apple also emphasizes that its iOS ecosystem in 2023 generated a global trade volume of £910 billion, most of which was not rewarded with the company’s commission.
