Forbes reported how Ukrainian military counterattack in the Pokrovske direction.
Ukrainian military conduct a counterattack near Pokrovske and its supplies.
According to Forbes, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used their reserves in the Pokrovske direction. Several brigades are conducting small counterattacks that delay and push back the Russians. The capture of Pokrovske by the Russians, which previously seemed inevitable, now appears less likely.
According to the publication, the Russian 2nd Combined Arms Army surpasses Ukrainian forces around Pokrovske by more than four times. Ukrainians have been retreating along the Pokrovske axis since mid-February when the Russians broke through the city's defenses in Avdiivka from the eastern end.
Ukrainian military had four to five brigades, each consisting of 2000 soldiers and hundreds of equipment. Russian propagandist Norin described these units as "unscathed and well-equipped".
According to Forbes, some of these reserves joined the battle along the last line of trenches and fortified towns about five to six miles from Pokrovske and its supplies.
"Exactly what was expected is happening - the Ukrainian armed forces have started a counterattack," said one Russian blogger.
This helps stabilize the front line, at least for now.
It is also worth noting that no sudden and radical changes in the situation near Pokrovske should be expected. Ukrainian forces are currently reinforced by several units, including:
- National Guard's "Kara-Dag" Brigade
- 12th "Azov" Brigade
- 93rd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
These units are conducting a series of small counterattacks. The main result of these actions is that they slow down or slightly push back the Russians.
Particular attention should be paid to the actions of the "Kara-Dag" brigade in Selydove. For several days, this brigade's tanks have been stopping and capturing Russian tanks and combat vehicles trying to penetrate Selydove by the main road.
The Russians need to pass through Selydove to be able to shell Pokrovske. But now, with fresh and well-equipped Ukrainian troops in Selydove, the capture of Pokrovske by the Russians looks less likely.
Recall that Zelensky commented on the appointment of new government ministers and the situation at the front.
