In Kiev, a decision was made to intensify the fight against the spread of allergenic ragweed. For this purpose, a special quarantine regime is being introduced in the city, covering the entire capital. During its duration, measures will be taken to destroy hotspots of ragweed growth.
Specific measures to combat ragweed will include:
- pulling and burning ragweed plants. In case of severe contamination, mowing or uprooting with roots will be carried out;
- creating phytocoenoses of perennial grasses in contaminated areas, which will suppress the growth and spread of ragweed;
- using herbicides permitted by Ukrainian legislation to combat ragweed.
Common ragweed is classified as a quarantine weed, posing a serious threat to human health and agriculture. This annual plant can reach a height of two meters and reproduces by seeds that remain in the soil for a long time.
Ragweed pollen is one of the most aggressive allergens. It can cause various allergic reactions in humans: runny nose, cough, tearing, itching, headache, and sometimes even asthma attacks.
