The US has confirmed the transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia and promised to help Ukraine defend against the aggressor.

At a briefing, the Pentagon spokesman, Air Force Major General Pat Ryder, stated that Iran had transferred batches of short-range ballistic missiles Fath 360 to Russia, which could use them against Ukraine. This may pose a threat to Ukrainian citizens. He also noted that the US would work with Ukraine to provide it with means of defense against these missiles.

Rider emphasized that the number of received Russian missiles is still unknown. He also added that these Fath 360 missiles have a range of approximately 75 miles and will enable the Russians to use more advanced missiles with a longer range.

This is a short and long-range ballistic missile system. This will allow Russia to use this potential while maintaining its longer-range capabilities for use across the battlefield, thereby deepening Russia's arsenal, and again, giving it the ability to strike targets we have seen, including civilian objects - he said.

Rider reported that dozens of Russian servicemen were trained to use this missile system in Iran.

What exactly the Iranians received in exchange for the missiles is unknown. It is believed that part of the deal may be intelligence information.

Without going into details, we see that they are exchanging information regarding nuclear programs, space, and other technological capabilities that Russia has and that countries like Iran need - noted Ryder.

Rider expressed concern about the strengthening of Russia's relations with other dangerous players such as North Korea and Russia's actions on the global stage. He believes that the supply of missiles from Iran might continue.

The aspect that causes concern is the developing relationship between Russia and Iran... And you also see that Russia is developing relations with North Korea, where it essentially becomes a provider of capabilities. So it should be assumed that if Iran supplies Russia with such missiles, it is likely not a one-Time beneficial deal, but a source of capabilities that Russia will seek to use in the future - he emphasized.

The American official noted that since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022, the US has provided Ukraine with over 55.9 billion dollars in security assistance. Particular attention was given to air defense, especially the protection against the missile threat.

The delivery of an integrated air defense system for Ukraine is ongoing, and we will continue to work with Ukraine on defense against these missiles and other missiles used by Russia - noted Ryder.
