Ukraine builds new shelters in ports: how they will protect workers.
Expansion of shelters in Ukraine's seaports
According to inkorr.com: In Ukraine's seaports, the network of protective shelters for workers is being expanded in case of emergencies. According to Andriy Kashuba, Deputy Minister for Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, there are currently 30 stationary shelters and 21 mobile protective structures operating in the ports, with plans to open 28 new ones by the end of the year.
During the inspection of port infrastructure, special attention was paid to the safety of cargo handling, particularly hazardous cargo.
“We analyzed the ports' readiness for such operations. Our position is to localize the handling of cargo at a safe distance from populated areas. It is important that handling is carried out in compliance with all safety requirements, without accumulation of cargo in ports and preferably at night,” Kashuba emphasized.
It should be noted that last year the handling, storage, and transportation of explosives were prohibited in the ports. The Ministry is actively working on balanced solutions that take into account safety needs, the interests of farmers, and the stability of port operations. The agency already has proposed measures and initiatives on these issues.
These steps are aimed at increasing the level of safety in Ukraine's ports and ensuring the safe execution of cargo operations. The expansion of shelters and strict adherence to safety requirements will help reduce risks for workers and cargo in difficult conditions.
