New Excise Tax on Gasoline: Why All Goods in Ukraine Will Become More Expensive.
The bill 'On Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine Regarding Improvement of Excise Tax Collection on Retail Trade in Oil Products', submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada, may lead to a gradual increase in prices for all goods for consumers. However, according to experts from the legal company Prove Group, this will not solve the problem of tax evasion.
Legislators propose to make changes that will regulate the payment of excise tax by companies for fuel intended for production needs. This may lead to an increase in transportation costs and, consequently, to rising prices for other products.
According to the conclusions of Senior Lawyer at Prove Group Anton Kagants, this bill contradicts the European Directive on excise taxation established for the countries of the European Union.
As a result, changes in the Tax Code of Ukraine may lead to rising prices for goods for consumers, but will not solve the problem of tax evasion.
