In the United States, 10 officials who participated in the criminal investigations against Donald Trump were fired by the Attorney General's Office. The main argument for their dismissal was a lack of trust from the new president. This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing CNN.

The acting US Attorney General, James McHenry, noted in a letter to the dismissed officials that they did not deserve trust, as they had effectively pursued Trump. 'The proper functioning of government depends on the trust of senior officials in their subordinates. Since you played a significant role in pursuing the president, I do not believe that the leadership of the Department can trust you,' McHenry wrote.

The officials were dismissed at the beginning of the investigation into the activities of prosecutors responsible for criminal cases related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Trump promised to take revenge for this riot, and this promise was an important part of his election campaign.

The acting prosecutor for Washington, D.C., Ed Martin, initiated an investigation against the prosecutors who brought charges under 18 U.S.C. § 1512(c) against the participants in the riot, which the Supreme Court rejected last summer. As part of the investigation, the prosecutors need to provide all available information regarding the use of this statute, including files, documents, notes, and emails.

It is noted that the dismissal of the officials occurred in the context of changes at the Department of Justice, where officials involved in the investigations, including against Trump for his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, were replaced.

Prosecutors who worked on the January 6 cases hope they will not be prosecuted. However, they are uncertain whether the investigation will target criminal or civil liability, and several of them have already hired lawyers for their defense.

Among the dismissed officials is conservative activist Ed Martin, who leads the 'Stop the Steal' movement. He was appointed as the acting prosecutor for Washington last week. Since taking office, he has supported Trump in the case of pardoning the participants in the January 6 Capitol riot.
