On Wednesday, 37-year-old Kesarija Abramidze, one of Georgia's most famous transgender women, was brutally murdered in Tbilisi. She suffered fatal stab wounds in her home. The police arrested a 26-year-old man who was acquainted with the victim. This was reported by the BBC.
Human rights organizations express concern about the connection of this murder with the recently passed controversial anti-LGBT law. They believe that the government's active promotion of this law has contributed to the rise of transphobia and hate crimes.
