According to Novyny.live: Following the earlier appearance of pink pelicans, Dalmatian pelicans have now been recorded at the Tuzly Lagoons National Nature Park in the Odesa region. This marks a significant event for the local ecosystem, highlighting the ongoing activity of waterfowl in the area. Among the largest waterfowl in Europe, Dalmatian pelicans can reach lengths of 160–180 cm, boast a wingspan exceeding 3 meters, and weigh up to 12 kg. Listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, their presence underscores their rarity and the need for conservation efforts.

Shifts in the Marine Ecosystem

In addition, over 20 blue crabs were discovered along the park's coastline following February storms. Notably, the blue crab is not native to the Black Sea, potentially signaling changes in the region's marine ecosystem. In Ukraine, Dalmatian pelicans are most commonly observed near the Danube, the Dniester Estuary, and other large water bodies, making their appearance at the Tuzly Lagoons especially noteworthy.

Pink pelicans were documented in southern Odesa region in 2026, when a flock of 55 birds stopped near the Sasyk Lagoon.
