The USA has arrested Maduro: The EU calls for restraint and adherence to international law.
According to ТСН: The Chief Diplomat of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, expressed her thoughts on the military actions of the USA in Venezuela and called for 'restraint'.
She noted that Brussels is 'closely monitoring the situation'.
'The EU has repeatedly stated that Maduro is illegitimate and called for a peaceful transfer of power. Under all circumstances, the principles of international law and the UN Charter must be respected. We call for restraint. The security of EU citizens in the country is our top priority,' said Kallas.
Additionally, it became known that Trump confirmed the execution of a military operation against Venezuela and that Maduro has been arrested along with his wife and taken out of the country. He added that the operation was carried out in conjunction with American law enforcement agencies.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the military operation is complete and Nicolás Maduro is already in custody in the USA.
According to him, the military action was intended to protect those who executed the arrest. Rubio also emphasized that no further military actions in Venezuela are planned, as Maduro has already been arrested. The capture of the Venezuelan leader was the main objective of the operation.
Furthermore, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau stated that Maduro must answer for his crimes in court.
'A new dawn for Venezuela! The tyrant is gone. Now he will finally have to answer for his crimes in court,' he emphasized.
In light of recent events, the reaction of European leaders reflects the concern of the international community over the developments in Venezuela. It is also important to emphasize that the situation remains tense and the further actions of the USA and other countries could significantly influence the stability in the region. Observers expect this development to open new perspectives for Venezuela, but whether this will actually lead to positive changes is a question that takes time to be answered.
