Dana White's response to criticism of the changes to the boxing law

According to The Sun: Dana White reacted sharply to questions about the controversial campaign to change the Muhammad Ali Reform Act.

This law, passed in the USA in 2000, was created to protect boxers from exploitation by promoters and managers, promoting an open market.

According to this act, promoters are prohibited from managing boxers to avoid monopolization of the sport, however, it does not apply to MMA.

UFC owners, TKO, launched a new boxing promotion that debuts Saturday with the fight of Canelo Alvarez against Terence Crawford in Las Vegas.

TKO, which also owns WWE, is attempting to modify the Ali Act by replacing it with Muhammad Ali Revitalization Act.

The new law provides for the creation of 'Unified Boxing Organizations' that are not subject to classical sanctioning organizations such as WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF.

Promotions will have the opportunity to introduce their own championship titles, giving them complete control over the boxers.

Famed American boxing reporter Sean Zittel asked White about TKO's attempts to lobby for these changes, which sparked a lively discussion.

“My question to you: why do you want to make radical changes to the Muhammad Ali Reform Act that is designed to protect boxers, to fulfill the business model under which your company is already paying 375 million dollars in antitrust cases and has two potential class action lawsuits looming?”

“This is obviously a long conversation,” White said, refusing to answer the question.

“If you want to talk about it, set up an interview. This is not about me and my business. It’s about these two guys on Saturday night.”

“My question to you: if TKO cannot make these changes to the Ali Act, will you continue to invest in boxing?”
“Listen, if you want to act like… let’s do this privately and we can do an interview,” White responded.

The dispute sparked a lively reaction from Canelo, who shouted “fight, fight, fight.”
