UFC Fighter Died for 8 Minutes Due to Overdose: A Story of Return from the Underworld.
The Death and Recovery of UFC Veteran Court McGee
According to The Sun: UFC veteran Court McGee shared that eight years ago he died for eight minutes due to a heroin overdose.
Before becoming a well-known fighter with an MMA record of 22-14, he went through tough times, becoming a drug addict.
GettyIn his last five fights, McGee has only one victory, and in June he lost to Michael Chiesa by unanimous decision.
However, for a father of three sons and husband to Chelsea, every day is already a victory.
Five years after the lowest point in his life, McGee wrote:
“On September 9, 2005, I overdosed on heroin and missed eight minutes. What was supposed to be the end of my story became the start of a second chance. Today I feel deep gratitude for recovery - for life, for the opportunity to live with purpose, and for the gift I almost lost. Every day of sobriety is proof that hope is stronger than despair. Recovery gave me a second chance — one day at a time, one step at a time. I am thankful for this journey, for the people who were there, and I hope for healing for those still struggling.”

‘I started hanging out with the wrong people – drinking, partying. It escalated to where I was drinking every night. Then came cocaine and heroin, and eventually – overdose.’
“One time I was drunk in Las Vegas and, waking up, found myself in Iowa four days later, without pants and only in a long-sleeve shirt, looking for meth.”
McGee lost hope for life and for his dream of becoming a professional athlete. But the low point he reached after eight minutes when his life stopped helped him change everything.
GettyHe noted:
“I was at rock bottom, a heroin addict, a drunk, a liar, a scammer, a thief. That’s who I thought I was. I never thought I would become something more.”
