Hungary, Czech Republic, and Slovakia create an alliance in the EU: what is the threat to Ukraine

According to inkorr.com: Hungary intends to create an alliance with the Czech Republic and Slovakia within the European Union, where a skeptical attitude towards Ukraine will prevail. This was reported by Balazs Orban, the chief political advisor to Prime Minister Viktor Orban, in an interview with Politico.

Plans for the alliance

Balazs Orban expressed hope for coordination of actions with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in order to formulate a common position before meetings of European leaders. Although the final formation of the alliance seems unlikely at this stage, it may complicate support for Ukraine from the European Union.

I think this will happen - and will become increasingly noticeable. It worked well during the migration crisis - this is how we were able to resist.

Budapest is actively seeking political alliances both in Brussels and outside of it, to strengthen its position in the European Parliament and to engage with various political groups. Orban's FIDESZ party plans to strengthen ties with right-wing conservatives and cooperate with some leftist factions.

The Prime Minister of Hungary is considering the possibility of forming an alliance with the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the EU, which may negatively impact support for Ukraine from this organization. Hungary seeks to find new political alliances to strengthen its positions in European structures and ensure its interests.

Thus, during the formation of the alliance, Hungary hopes to find allies in Central Europe, which, in turn, may influence the overall EU policy towards Ukraine. These events may worsen Ukraine's position in the European context, so it is important to monitor the development of the situation and the reactions of other EU members to Hungary's plans.
