Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced that Hungary will use its share of funds from the European Peace Facility, amounting to 14 million euros, to support Chad's defense capabilities instead of Ukraine.

"We decided to use these 14 million euros to strengthen security in Chad, to create a new educational institution aimed at training army officers in Chad, and to improve the capabilities of Chad's armed forces,” Szijjártó stated.

The minister explained that this decision was made with the aim of a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that this was the reason for declining to invest in the European Peace Facility, which could have been used to compensate for weapons delivered to Ukraine.

This decision was announced during a visit by a Chadian delegation to Hungary. During the meeting, agreements were signed with Chadian President Mahamat Déby in various areas, including combating illegal migration, defense, and agriculture.

Such a decision by Hungary could provoke a negative reaction from the European Union, considering the geopolitical situation and the conflict in Ukraine. The question remains open regarding the impact of this decision on Budapest's relations with Brussels and other European capitals.
