The Cost of Seasonal Vegetables: Analysts Compared Prices for Cucumbers and Tomatoes in Major Retail Chains.
Summer is always associated with fresh vegetables, but the price of products can significantly impact our purchases. According to an analysis conducted by Ministry of Finance analysts in early July, there are substantial differences in prices for seasonal products.
Let's start with tomatoes, where the price discrepancy is most evident.
For example, red tomatoes cost UAH 72.99 per kilogram at the Novus chain, while in Auchan the price reaches UAH 118.60. Prices for pink tomatoes range from UAH 103.90 at Metro to UAH 129.00 at Novus. As for the plum variety, prices fluctuate between UAH 99.90 and UAH 111.08, with Auchan offering the most affordable prices.
At the same time, cucumber prices have decreased compared to the previous month. The cheapest regular cucumbers can be purchased at Novus, while short cucumbers in Auchan go for UAH 39.90 per kilogram. Smooth cucumbers range from UAH 47.90 at Metro to UAH 68.80 at Megamarket. 'Estafeta' cucumbers remain the most expensive, but the price at Auchan has dropped to UAH 73.80 per kilogram.
