Ukraine has agreed to carry out exhumation works for Polish victims of the Volhynia tragedy who died in 1945. The works will be conducted by specialists from the 'Freedom and Democracy' foundation, who previously found the remains of the deceased in Puzhnyky in the Ternopil region.
In 2022, a mass grave with remains of people was discovered near a former cemetery. Polish archaeologists and anthropologists will conduct the exhumation works and study these remains. They are already obtaining genetic material from the descendants of the victims from Puzhnyky.
The tragic events in Puzhnyky occurred in February 1945, resulting in the deaths of about 80 local residents.
