According to inkorr.com: The Committee on Health of the Nation, Medical Aid and Health Insurance has analyzed draft laws regarding the regulation of nicotine products. This information was provided by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The issue of nicotine pouches

'Nicotine pouches (snus) are actively spreading in Ukraine. These products dissolve in the mouth and release nicotine upon contact with saliva. Their sale and use are currently unregulated, creating risks, particularly among children. According to recent studies, 0.3% of adult Ukrainians and about 3% of children use such nicotine products,' said Committee Chairman Mykhailo Radutsky.

Legislative initiatives

According to the Committee Chairman, draft laws were considered that amend several laws of Ukraine concerning the regulation of nicotine products, as well as four alternative options. The first draft law proposes a complete ban on these products, while others suggest state regulation and restrictions on their use.

'During the discussion, arguments were made that a complete ban could lead to the market going underground, and thus to a loss of excise revenues to the budget. The introduction of state control will allow limiting the nicotine content in products and prohibiting their use by children,' explained Radutsky.

Discussion conclusions

The Ukrainian parliament is actively considering draft laws regarding the regulation of nicotine products, given their prevalence in the country. Proposals range from a complete ban to options for state control and restrictions, focusing on public health risks, especially among children.

This topic remains relevant, as the increasing popularity of nicotine products among young people raises concerns among experts. Legislative initiatives aim not only to protect the health of citizens but also to ensure control over the market, which could be significant for Ukraine's economy.
