According to inkorr.com: The State Enterprise 'Medical Procurements' of Ukraine has announced the arrival of over 1.9 million rapid test systems to detect antibodies to hepatitis B and C viruses. These tests were purchased with budget funds according to the order of the Ministry of Health for the year 2025.
Distribution of tests across Ukraine
Delivery has begun: 500 thousand tests for hepatitis B and another 500 thousand for hepatitis C have already been dispatched throughout Ukraine. Additionally, over 850 thousand tests are stored in the warehouse and are awaiting further distribution to the regions.
Viral hepatitis B and C are infectious liver diseases transmitted through contact with blood. Hepatitis B has a chronic course and requires long-term treatment, while hepatitis C is often cured within a few months using modern antiviral drugs.
Disease statistics
According to the Center for Public Health, in 2024, over 1.1 million people were tested for hepatitis B, of which 1.2% received a positive result. Regarding hepatitis C, over 420 thousand individuals were screened, of which 6.1% were found to be infected.
Doctors' recommendations
Doctors strongly urge people to get tested for hepatitis B and C at least once in their lifetime. Screening for these viral infections is free for Ukrainians; they just need to contact their family doctor.
As noted, the arrival of a large number of tests for detecting hepatitis B and C in Ukraine will significantly improve the diagnosis of these diseases. The process of distributing tests has already started, which will provide quick and free access to screening for the country's population.
