Ukraine appealed to the IAEA regarding Russia's attacks on nuclear power plants: what actions the agency will take.
According to inkorr.com: Ukraine has appealed to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) demanding to convene the Board of Governors. This initiative was reported by the Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk, emphasizing that its goal is to protect critical infrastructure from possible attacks by Russia and to strengthen international pressure on nuclear and radiation safety issues. The main objective is to coordinate actions for effective resistance to threats.
'Russia is using intelligence data to attack key elements of energy systems,' Kolisnyk stressed.
He also noted that Russia is trying to attack substations that supply electricity to the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants, leading to disruptions in electricity supply and the need for restrictions. The situation is extremely critical in Poltava and Kharkiv regions due to insufficient electricity transmission. Kolisnyk urged businesses to intensify electricity imports to avoid restrictions.
Ukraine's appeal to the IAEA will certainly be an important step in enhancing the safety of nuclear and radiation facilities in the context of escalating conflict with Russia. Strengthening international coordination in these areas can help prevent possible crisis situations and ensure stability in the country's energy sector.
