Ukraine's energy system is ready for winter

According to a report by The New York Times, Ukraine's energy system is at «the highest possible level of readiness» before the winter season. Planned repairs at Ukraine's power plants have been successfully completed, noted Ukraine's Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko.

In his interview, former head of the company «Ukrenergo» Volodymyr Kudrytskyi spoke about a dispute with the Ministry of Energy regarding the strategy to ensure energy supply security. Kudrytskyi believed that to reduce the vulnerability of the energy system to terrorist attacks from Russia, Ukraine should build small private power plants across the country.

However, this position of the former head of «Ukrenergo» was contrary to Galushchenko's position, who supported the idea of centralizing state companies.

When the government approved the plan for decentralizing the energy system, experts and diplomats believed it was too late to strengthen the energy supply before winter

Galushchenko refuted the news of his involvement in Kudrytskyi's dismissal and emphasized that he has no influence on the supervisory board of «Ukrenergo».

The Ministry of Energy denied the UN's forecast of possible prolonged power outages in Ukraine during the winter. Officials in the government claim that there will be no problems with energy supply until the end of October and in November. They hope that this winter will be almost without outages, as was the case last year.

At the moment, all nine energy units operating in the territory controlled by Ukraine are ready to work during the autumn-winter period.

Furthermore, the European Commission is making adjustments to increase electricity supplies to Ukraine. The G7 countries and other partners have raised over $4 billion for the restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure following the Russian invasion.
