Ukraine opposes the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes: Vlasjuk's position.
According to inkorr.com: The President's representative for sanctions policy Vladyslav Vlasjuk expressed his opposition to the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in international sports competitions. He noted that their participation could create a misleading perception of the current situation between the countries. Vlasjuk also reported that all necessary measures have already been taken to prohibit the participation of representatives from these countries in international competitions.
Ukraine's sports diplomacy
Ukrainian sports diplomacy is actively working on this issue, cooperating with international sports federations and supporting the position of Ukrainian athletes. Vlasjuk clarified that discussions about the possibility of participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes are taking place at the political level, which may influence sanctions in sports.
Our sports diplomacy is led by the Ministry of Sports, and the same is happening at the levels of various federations and associations. It's very useful when our 'star' athletes also express their position
The importance of sanctions in sports
Vlasjuk emphasized that sanctions in sports are extremely important as they can affect the transfers of football players. This underscores the seriousness of the issue and its significance for the entire sports sphere.
Thus, Ukraine actively opposes the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions, engages in sports diplomacy, and supports sanctions to prevent a distortion of the situation between states. These efforts can significantly impact the international sports context and determine future relations in this field.
