The government introduces mandatory accessibility checklists for all new buildings.
New rules for building accessibility
According to inkorr.com: In Ukraine, a mandatory checklist has been introduced as part of the changes to the Unified State Electronic System in Construction. This document is designed to verify the accessibility of buildings for various segments of the population, including persons with disabilities. Architects, designers, and experts will have the opportunity to ensure that their projects meet the requirements of inclusiveness and barrier-free design.
"We will embed the principle of accessibility at the planning stage so that every house, school, or hospital in our country is comfortable for all residents. This is part of our strategy - to create favorable conditions for all people," emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksii Kuleba.
The new tool will be integrated into the digital system of the UDESSB and will ensure barrier-free control at all stages of construction. This aims to improve the quality of design, make the construction sector more transparent, and guarantee that new buildings in Ukraine will be convenient and accessible for all citizens.
The Ukrainian government decided to make changes to the functioning of the UDESSB, which involve monitoring the accessibility of buildings for various categories of the population, including persons with disabilities. Architects and designers are required to take this aspect into account at every stage of the development of new facilities to ensure comfort for all citizens.
These changes will contribute to the development of inclusive architecture in Ukraine and improve conditions for people with disabilities. It is important that all new buildings become true creations of a comfortable and accessible space for everyone, regardless of their abilities or needs.
