Ukraine Strikes Russia’s Last Major Oil Refinery: Fire Breaks Out at Omsk Facility.
Attack on the Omsk Oil Refinery
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian forces have targeted the Omsk oil refinery, the last remaining among Russia’s 11 largest producers of automotive fuel. The strike ignited a fire, and the extent of the damage is currently being assessed. As the largest refinery in Russia by capacity, Omsk processes over 21 million tons of crude oil annually.
Located nearly 2,500 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border, the Omsk refinery operates the ELOU-AVT-11 primary crude processing unit, which has a design capacity of 8.4 million tons of raw material per year. The refinery achieves a processing depth of approximately 99%, reflecting its high operational efficiency.
Impact on the Fuel Market
Omsk is the only refinery in Russia capable of producing cracking catalysts. Its product lineup includes:
- TS-1 and RT grade aviation kerosene,
- AI-92, AI-95, and G-Drive 100 automotive gasoline,
- Euro-5 environmental class diesel fuel.
The attack on this strategic facility could significantly disrupt Russia’s fuel market, potentially leading to shortages and economic repercussions.
This strike underscores the growing impact of military operations on Russia’s energy infrastructure. Given the refinery’s role as a key fuel supplier, its damage may trigger market instability, affecting both domestic supply and broader economic conditions. The events at Omsk not only highlight shifts within Russia but also reflect Ukraine’s strategic objectives in the ongoing war between the two nations.
