Ukraine has established energy shields: how technologies will protect light this winter

According to inkorr.com: Ukraine is preparing for the toughest winter during the war by expanding its energy front with American technologies. In all regions of the country, powerful battery systems have been installed at secret sites, which are already connected to the power grid, reports The Wall Street Journal.

These installations will enable energy workers to quickly restore electricity supply after possible Russian shelling and avoid a complete blackout in cities and villages.

The total capacity of the six commissioned facilities is about 200 megawatts, which allows to provide light to 600,000 households for two hours - equivalent to the electricity supply of a city the size of Washington.

These facilities are located in Kyiv and the Dnipropetrovsk region and automatically activate in the event of an emergency shutdown of other energy sources. The project's cost was 140 million dollars, and its completion took place in August.

Development of renewable energy in Ukraine

Renewable energy is actively being developed in Ukraine. Wind and solar power plants are important elements of the defense strategy. Battery systems help reduce fluctuations in energy generation and ensure system stability even in the absence of sunlight or wind.

WSJ called these systems 'energy shields' that may become a rescue for millions of Ukrainians and a step towards creating a more resilient national energy system.

In the context of preparations for the winter period, such initiatives aim to ensure the stability of electricity supply in the face of threats and challenges of wartime. The development of renewable energy is an important step towards creating a more resilient and independent energy system in Ukraine.
