The government introduces limits for online casinos: what restrictions await players.
After several years of deregulation and the growing popularity of online casinos, the government of Ukraine is introducing stricter control measures to protect citizens from addiction. The Ministry of Digital Transformation has presented a draft order that provides for the establishment of financial and time limits for players in gambling.
Regulation of responsible gaming
According to inkorr.com: Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Natalia Denykeeva notes that the introduction of limits is an important step in forming a civilized market where gambling does not lead to addiction. This project is the first in Ukraine to regulate responsible gaming and aims to prevent gambling addiction. It includes various types of restrictions, including financial and time limits.
Player limit choices
Players will be able to choose limits themselves — for a day, week, or month. The time of the limits will count from the moment of the first bet and will be recorded with second precision. A similar approach has already been successfully implemented in EU countries, Canada, and the USA as part of a system to prevent gambling addiction.
Denykeeva emphasized that Ukraine takes into account international experience, but develops its own model based on real data provided by the State Online Monitoring System after launch. The introduction of limits changes the approach to the problem of addiction in Ukraine, moving from a response to its consequences to preventive policy.
Increasing control
Control over gambling in Ukraine is becoming increasingly strict and transparent. The introduction of financial and time limits for players is an important step to protect the population from potential addiction. The new rules will help shape a civilized market and shift from reacting to consequences to implementing effective preventive policy.
Currently, there is an active discussion in Ukraine about the importance of control in the gambling sector, confirming the need for change. The ministry's initiative is a significant step toward creating a safer environment for players and is likely to serve as a foundation for future changes in this field.
