Ukrainians urgently need to replace their passports: new rules from 2025.
According to inkorr.com: Recently, Ukrainians were reminded of the urgent need to replace their foreign passports. From the end of October 2025, new rules will come into effect in Ukraine, under which passports with extended validity will not be accepted at the border. Previously, this was allowed, but now everyone must comply with the current requirements for foreign documents.
During the crisis caused by the Russian invasion, the authorities introduced a temporary extension of the validity of passports to ensure the normal functioning of the passport system. However, after complete recovery, the government decided to abandon this practice and transition to international standards.
Passports for adults from 16 years old will be issued for 10 years, and for minors - for 4 years. Now every citizen must have their own foreign document; information about children will not be included in parents' passports.
Those who are abroad with an outdated passport are advised to contact the Ukrainian consulate to obtain a certificate that will allow them to return home without hindrance. Such a certificate is issued free of charge for children and for adults – at established rates.
If you are denied entry into EU countries, do not hesitate to contact the relevant services for obtaining a new biometric passport. It is worth remembering that most countries recognize documents with a validity of up to 10 years, and airlines may not allow boarding for those with an extended passport.
Ukrainians are advised to comply with the new rules and travel with valid documents to avoid problems at the border. In case of doubts or questions, it is better to consult specialists.
It is important to remember that having a valid foreign passport is a necessary condition for unhindered travel. By adhering to the new requirements, Ukrainians will be able to visit EU countries and other destinations without delays, in accordance with current international standards.
