Ukrainians face passport problems: how not to be left without documents abroad.
According to inkorr.com: Starting from 2025, Ukrainians abroad will be able to take advantage of new opportunities for obtaining a foreign passport. The procedure has become more convenient due to the expansion of service centers and the simplification of requirements for certain groups of the population.
Where to obtain a passport abroad
Ukrainian citizens who are outside the country can contact two types of institutions:
Ukrainian Consular Institutions — these are embassies and consulates, where prior appointment is required through the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The cost of obtaining a passport ranges from 30 to 50 euros depending on the country.
DP 'Document' Centers — specialized units located in various European countries, where the processing time may extend up to 3 months.
Prices and conditions for obtaining in 2025
In 2025, the cost of passport forms increased, which reflected on the overall service costs. The new prices for obtaining a passport are:
- Standard processing (up to 20 working days) — 1042 hryvnias in Ukraine
- Expedited processing (up to 7 working days) — 1682 hryvnias in Ukraine
- Processing at DP 'Document' centers abroad — processing times may take up to 3 months
Special rules for conscripted men
For men over 18 but under 60, special conditions apply:
Men who submit an application by April 24, 2024 may register for military service remotely. Those who apply after April 24, 2024 will undergo a military registration status check through the electronic system 'Oberih'.
The basic set of documents required for obtaining a passport includes an application form, a Ukrainian citizenship passport, a previous foreign passport, a document confirming the place of residence, and for men aged 18-60 - an electronic military registration document.
Processing times and methods of receipt
A foreign passport can be issued for 4 or 10 years, depending on age. Passport issuance is only possible in person with the internal passport. If the previous passport is lost abroad, a certificate from the local police must be provided.
Thus, in 2025, Ukrainians abroad will have the opportunity to obtain a foreign passport through consulates or DP 'Document' centers. The cost of services varies depending on the chosen type of processing and production deadlines, while the simplification of procedures allows citizens to resolve issues with exit documents faster and more conveniently.
